The Smart Choice

Why Southern Illinois homeowners choose solar

Going solar is one of the most impactful decisions a homeowner can make. Here’s why thousands of Illinois families have already made the switch.

Reduce Your Electric Bill

Solar can significantly lower your monthly electricity costs. Actual savings depend on your energy usage, system size, and utility rates — we’ll model your specific situation for free.

Federal Tax Credit

Commercial solar projects may qualify for a 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) under Section 48E. The residential ITC ended December 31, 2025. *See our incentives section for details.

Increase Home Value

Studies consistently show that homes with solar panels sell faster and at higher prices, adding tangible long-term value to your property investment.

Tesla Powerwall Battery

As a Tesla Certified Installer, we install Tesla Powerwall home batteries. Store excess solar energy, keep your lights on during outages, and maximize your energy independence.

25-Year Warranty

Every SunVolt installation includes industry-leading warranties covering panels, inverters, and workmanship. We stand behind every project for the long haul.

Our team lives and works here in Southern Illinois. We know local utility requirements, permitting, and net metering rules — so your installation goes smoothly.

Available incentives

Illinois solar customers have access to some of the best incentives in the country. We’ll walk you through every applicable program at no charge.

30%

Commercial Investment Tax Credit

The federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) under Section 48E provides a 30% tax credit for qualifying commercial solar installations. Projects must begin construction by July 4, 2026 and be placed in service by December 31, 2030 to qualify.

* Important: The residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) ended December 31, 2025 following passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The 30% ITC is now available only for commercial solar projects under Section 48E. Eligibility depends on project type, construction timeline, and equipment sourcing requirements. Consult a qualified tax professional before making purchasing decisions based on this credit.
IL Shines

Illinois Shines Program

As an approved IL Shines Designee, SunVolt Solar can help qualifying customers access Illinois’ Adjustable Block Program (ABP) incentives for new solar installations. The program supports solar development through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).

Illinois Shines is administered by the Illinois Power Agency. SunVolt Solar, Inc. is an independent approved Designee — we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the IPA, any utility, or any government agency.
Net Metering

Utility Bill Credits

Excess solar energy your system produces is sent back to the grid in exchange for bill credits from your utility — offsetting energy you consume at night or on cloudy days.

You will continue to receive a utility bill and remain a customer of your electric utility. Solar reduces your energy charges but does not eliminate your utility bill, which also includes fixed charges (customer and meter fees) that solar cannot offset.

Utility Bill & Independence Disclosure

Installing solar does not mean you will stop receiving a utility bill. You will remain a customer of your electric utility and continue to be responsible for your utility bill. Solar generation will reduce the energy (kWh) portion of your bill, but fixed charges will remain. SunVolt Solar is not affiliated with, part of, or acting on behalf of any utility company or utility program.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Solar will significantly reduce your electricity costs, but you will continue to receive a utility bill and remain a customer of your electric utility. Your utility bill includes fixed charges — such as customer charges and meter fees — that solar cannot offset. Solar reduces the energy (kilowatt-hour) portion of your bill. Many customers see meaningful reductions in this portion, but you will remain responsible for your utility bill.

The federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) under Section 48E allows qualifying commercial solar projects to claim a credit equal to 30% of the total system cost. The residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) ended December 31, 2025 following passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and is no longer available to homeowners. For commercial projects, construction must begin by July 4, 2026 with the system placed in service by December 31, 2030 to qualify. We strongly recommend consulting a qualified tax professional before making any purchasing decisions based on the ITC.

Illinois Shines (also known as the Adjustable Block Program) is a state incentive program administered by the Illinois Power Agency that supports new solar installations by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) generated by your system over 15 or 20 years. SunVolt Solar is an approved IL Shines Designee and can help you apply for and access this program. We are an independent solar company — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the IPA, any utility, or any government agency.

Most residential installations are completed in 1–2 days by our crew. However, the full timeline from contract signing to system activation — including permits, utility applications, and interconnection approval — typically takes 4–8 weeks depending on local utility and municipality processing times. We handle all of that paperwork for you.

SunVolt Solar offers several ways to go solar: cash purchase (maximizes long-term value), solar loans ($0 down options available), and lease or PPA arrangements. During your free consultation, we’ll review all options and make sure you understand the full costs, fees, and obligations of each before you make any decisions.

A Tesla Certified Installer is an independent solar company that has completed Tesla’s training and certification program and meets Tesla’s standards for installing Tesla Powerwall home batteries.
